Xiaomi releases MIUI 12.5 with privacy controls inspired by Apple’s iOS 14

Following the beta releases, Xiaomi has scheduled the first batch of the MIUI 12.5 stable version at the end of April 2021. MIUI 12.5 features the presence of animated super wallpapers along with snow mountain and geometry. They come with the current Super Earth, Super Mars and Super Saturn wallpapers available with MIUI 12. Xiaomi claims that super wallpapers on MIUI 12.5 consume 40 percent less energy.

Similar to the new additions to the Super Wallpapers, the latest MIUI update brings additional nature-inspired sound effects with exclusive tracks from the Amazon and African jungles as well as Arctic ice dessert. There are also enhanced haptics and notification sound effects to provide a fresh feel. You may also notice stereo system noises on compatible devices. Furthermore, MIUI 12.5 incorporates a new Motion Effect architecture to provide a better animation experience. It brings a better immersive touch with the integration of the newest touch library.

At the front of the interface is the introduction of floating windows, which allow you to quickly respond to a message or view maps without leaving your active screen. The MIUI update brings new ‘ripple’ animation for downloading apps and ‘burst’ animation for uninstalling apps on the home screen. MIUI 12.5 also brings a vertical layout for the ‘Recent’ screen.

In terms of upgraded privacy, MIUI 12.5 has the ability to prompt you with pop-ups when the app tries to access your clipboard data. You can grant or deny access. Once integrated, it allows you to view notifications, text messages and photos directly from your phone on your computer. Initially available in MIUI + beta and limited to the Mi10 Extreme Memorial Edition, Mi10 Pro, Mi10, Mi9 Pro 5G, Mi9, Redmi K30 Ultra, Redmi K20 Pro and Redmi K30 Pro. The phone must run MIUI 12.5 to enable integration. Xiaomi recommends the Mi Notebook Pro 15 Edition, the Pro 15.6-inch 2020 model, the Redmi G Gaming Notebook, the Redmibook 16, the Redmibook 14 II, and the Redmibook Air 13 as the most compatible computers with the new UI. Due to driver and hardware limitations, the company claims that this does not guarantee the same experience as other notebooks.
