WhatsApp works on self-destructive photos for Android and iOS

Introduced by WhatsApp ‘Disappearing messages’ Featured some time ago. However, this only applies to texts rather than media. A future version of WhatsApp will allow users to send self-destructive images through private chats and groups. This is similar to how Instagram’s Direct’s disappearing messages work. Finally, both the Android and iOS versions of WhatsApp will get self-destructing photos through a future update. This feature is currently in the testing phase, so it may be some time before it leads to a stable structure.

Like many other ‘new’ WhatsApp features, Telegram has for some time allowed users to send self-destructive images through secret and simple chats. This prevents users from taking screen shots of self-destructive media. Third-party recording apps may not seem to work, although some may still exceed the limit at times. WhatsApp does not currently have such actions, but that may change once this feature becomes massively available. As expected, users will not be able to export self-destructive images from WhatsApp.

The desktop version of WhatsApp is unlikely to support this feature. There is no word yet on when multi-device support will be released. Self-destructive media, combined with mandatory end-to-end encryption and multiple devices can be very tricky to get right. Therefore, it may be some time before all this goes into WhatsApp.
