The encrypted messaging app Telegram will launch pay-for-services in 2021, its Russian founder Pavel Durov said on Wednesday, adding that the growing company needs “at least a few hundred million dollars a year”.

“For most of Telegram history, I paid for company expenses from my personal savings,” Durov said.
“However, with the current growth, Telegram needs to reach billions of customers and be adequately funded.”
