Qualcomm Snapdragon 678 SoC has been announced as the latest addition to the company’s 6-Series SoCs. It comes with some performance improvements on the Snapdragon 675 which will be re-launched in October 2018. The Snapdragon 678 is an octa-core SoC based on an 11nm process. It is a 4G SoC with Snapdragon X12 LTE modem that can deliver 600Mbps download speed and 150Mbps upload speed. It also supports 4K video recording, dual-band Wi-Fi and NFC.

Qualcomm Announced the new SoC by Official blog post, Snapdragon 678 “meets high demand for premium mobile experiences with upgraded performance, dynamic camera features and improved streaming capabilities.” It’s been over two years now Snapdragon 675 SoC. Snapdragon 678 Contains The Qualcomm Cryo 460 octa-core CPU has a clock speed of up to 2.2GHz, which is slightly faster than the Snapdragon 675’s 2GHz clock speed. Along with the Snapdragon 678’s CPU, it has a Qualcomm Adreno 612 GPU, which the company says “drives fast graphics rendering that allows sharp, life-like visuals at high frame rates with low frame drops.
For connectivity, the Snapdragon 678 Qualcomm Snapdragon X12 LTE modem can provide maximum downloads and upload speeds of 600Mbps and 150Mbps respectively. It supports dual-SIM dual VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, Beadow, Galileo, GLONASS, GPS, QZSS and SBAS. You also get USB 3.1 support with a USB Type-C interface and Qualcomm Quick Charge 4+ technology.
Supported displays have full-HD + (1,080×2,520 pixels) resolution with 10-bit color depth. When external display is connected, Snapdragon 678 supports 4K UHD resolution. In terms of audio, this SoC comes with Qualcomm TrueWireless Stereo Plus technology, Qualcomm Actic audio technology and Qualcomm OptiX audio technology.
In terms of camera sensor support, the Snapdragon 678 has a Qualcomm Spectra 250L image signal processor that can handle dual camera setups up to 16 megapixels and single cameras up to 48 megapixels. It can record 4K video at 30fps, 1080p video up to 120fps and 720p video up to 240fps.
At the moment, it is unclear which phone will have the new Qualcomm processor.
