The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have standard USB Type-C ports, while the Pro models can ship with faster Type-C ports, according to Kuo. It doesn’t slow down the Type-C port on the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus, which the analyst says is similar to the Lightning port.

I’m guessing the 15 Pro & 15 Pro Max will at least support USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3. This spec upgrade means that the wired transfer and video output user experience is significantly improved.— Ming-Chi Kuo (@mingchikuo) November 17, 2022
According to Ming-Chi Kuo, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus Type-C ports will still support USB 2.0, while one of the Pro models will at least support USB 3.2 or Thunderbolt 3. For example, USB 3.2 allows a maximum speed of 20GB/second, while USB 2.0 can only transfer data up to 480MB/second. Thunderbolt 3, on the other hand, offers data transfer speeds of up to 40GB/second. So if what Kuo says is true, there will be a significant difference in wired data transfer speeds between the Pro and non-Pro iPhone 15 variants.
The Lightning connector replaced the 30-pin dock connector in 2012. It’s been a decade since Apple finally changed the way its users charge their iPhones. As a result, USB Type-C has been in the Android realm since 2015, and faster ones followed shortly after, so the move will please many users who previously complained about iPhones’ transfer speeds.
