Infinix is releasing new phones very fast. We recently saw new models in the Hot and Note series and now there is a new smartphone called the Infinix Zero 8i. Slightly amusing name aside, the Zero 8i packs on paper in some impressive specifications. You have a MediaTek Helio G90T processor, 8GB RAM, 90 Hz refresh rate for the display, 48 megapixel quad-camera setup and a starting price of just Rs 15,999. So do all these specifications translate to better real-world performance? We will review the Infinix Zero 8i to find out.
Infinix Zero 8i design
The Infinix Zero 8i The tall smartphone, and the large 6.85-inch display make single-hand use a little tricky. Need a quick shuffle in hand to reach the top of the screen. Infinix flew with a dual selfie camera setup embedded in the upper left corner. Zero 8i is not thick, and is comfortable to hold on curved sides. Infinix has put a fingerprint scanner on the power button, which is slowly becoming the norm these days even for budget smartphones. The position of the fingerprint scanner is comfortable, but I can’t say the same about the volume buttons on the same side.
The Infinix Zero 8i has a dual selfie camera setup
At the top of the display is a selfie flash, which is neatly hidden from view. I can only detect when it is active. While the sim tray is on the left side of the Zero 8i, the top of the frame is bare. At the bottom, it features a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm audio jack and a loudspeaker. Turn the phone on and the diamond-shaped camera module will catch your eye. The smartphone will rock when this module sits at the top in the middle and rises slightly and is placed on a flat surface. Zero 8i is available in two colors, Silver Diamond and Black Diamond. I have the previous one for this review and I liked the matte finish on the back.
I found the Infinix Zero 8i to be a bit heavier, breaking the standards at 210g. It packs in a 4,500 mAh battery, which is less than the average battery capacity you get at this price. The Infinix Zero 8i has a 33W fast charging capacity but is shipped with an 18W charger in the box.
Infinix Zero 8i features
As I said at the beginning of the review, the spec sheet of the Infinix Zero 8i is very interesting. You get a 6.85-inch Full-HD + display with a 20.5: 9 aspect ratio and a 90Hz fast refresh rate. The display is set to 90Hz by default, but you can change it to 60Hz or set it to auto. Infinix MediaTek chooses Helio G90T processor Redmi Note 8 Pro (Review) Yet Realme6 (Review). More interestingly, Infinix has paired it with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of UFS 2.1 storage. The Helio G90T is a gaming processor, and Infinix claims to have used liquid cooling to control thermals. You get a triple-slot tray in the Infinix Zero 8i to hold dual nano-SIMs and a microSD card.
The Infinix Zero 8i packs in a 4,500 mAh battery
In terms of software, Zero 8i runs XOS 7 on top of Android 10. My unit has October Android The security patch of the day at this point. The UI feels very familiar and I had no trouble finding my way. There is a game mode that turns off the automatic brightness and prevents the phone from switching between your data network and Wi-Fi to avoid problems. It also has an anti-addiction feature that sends you a notification if you play too long. There is also a parental control setting that allows you to lock any game after the allotted time.
The Infinix Zero 8i has an affordable amount of pre-installed bloatware. I found some third party games and apps as well as an app called Palm Store which looks like an alternative to the Infinix made theme app and Play Store. I have noticed that these two apps are spamming as they keep sending suggestions.
Infinix Zero 8i performance
The Infinix Zero 8i features a fast fingerprint scanner and requires just a tap on the power button to unlock the device. Facial recognition is also quick and does not require more than one attempt. The large display on Zero 8i makes the content attractive and I enjoyed streaming video on it. Stereo speakers enhance the overall experience, but do not have this feature. I found that the display brightness was adequate but its surface was reflective. The UI is very happy with the Zero 8i being set to the fastest 90Hz refresh rate by default. I don’t have to wait long for apps to load and multi-tasking is a breeze
I drove the benchmarks on the Infinix Zero 8i to see how it charges compared to some other smartphones available at the same price today. On AnTuTu, the phone managed 289,887 points. It scored 529 and 1703 points, respectively, in the single-core and multi-core tests of the Geekbench 5. The Zero 8i GFX bench also handled the Manhattan 3.1 and Car Chase tests at 26fps and 15fps, respectively.

Call of Duty Mobile loads quickly and runs at high settings by default with no problems with both graphics and frame rate. After playing the game for 15 minutes I noticed a 6 percent battery drop and only the top of the smartphone was not warm to the touch. Zero 8i handles gaming well, but a large battery is good for people who want to spend more time every day.
The Infinix Zero 8i offers better battery life. I was able to get a full day with my usage model and only need to charge the next day. In our HD video loop test the phone lasted 16 hours 45 minutes, which is acceptable depending on the battery capacity. The Infinix Zero 8i offers 33W fast charging support, but you only get the 18W charger in the box. Using this, the smartphone was charged to 33 percent in 30 minutes and reached 68 percent in an hour.
Infinix Zero 8i cameras
The Infinix Zero 8i features a 48-megapixel primary camera, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera, and a quad-camera setup with a 2-megapixel depth sensor, which Infinix calls the “bokeh lens” and the “AI lens”. You can take macro shots with the Infinix Zero 8i using an ultra-wide-angle camera. For selfies, there is a 16-megapixel primary camera and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide angle camera. The camera app is very basic and easy to use. I also found that AI was quick to detect any scene and set up the phone for it.
Daytime shots taken with Zero 8i are average. There are good details for nearby objects, but the phone does not capture details well for distant objects. Photos taken using an ultra-wide angle camera have a slightly different color tone and no details. The Camera app has a distortion correction enabled by default, which can be useful.

For close-up shots, the camera occasionally struggled to focus where I wanted to. The photos look good, but magnifying them makes it clear that the output is not too sharp. The portraits are good enough and have a good edge. You have the option to set the blur level before taking the shot. You can get high resolution shots from a wide angle camera compared to dedicated macro cameras on most phones, but the details are still perfectly average.

Low-light shots are average and lack details. After enabling Night Mode, the quality improved, but it took four seconds to capture the shot and there was still visible grain in the zoom.

Selfies taken with the primary front camera have better detail., The wide angle selfie camera offers a wider view, but does not match the primary in terms of quality. You can also take selfie portraits and it’s great to spot the edge. Low-light selfies are good and selfie light is useful when shooting in shady places.

Video recording for primary front and rear cameras is at the top at 4K. Footage shot at 4K is not stabilized and there is still tremor visible in 1080p video. There is an ultrasonic mode that helps stabilize the footage, but it also has a shiny effect that can be seen in low light.
Judgment
The Infinix Zero 8i packs some interesting hardware that can help provide better performance. The MediaTek Helio G90T is an efficient processor, paired with 8GB of RAM and very little things are slow. The 90 Hz display also plays a role in smoothing the overall user experience.
However, there are some flaws in the Zero 8i that make potential buyers think twice. The first must be software; Blotware is pre-installed and some stock applications push spammy notifications, which can be frustrating. Battery capacity is good, but if you are a heavy user who often looks towards the game, this phone needs frequent change.
