in a Blog post, Netflix said, “On the 16th anniversary of the original video game’s 2006 release, Netflix announced a partnership with The Coalition to adapt the Gears of War universe. Netflix will first turn the video game saga into a live-action feature film, then an adult animated series, with more stories likely to follow. With more than 40 million copies sold, Gears of War redefined the third-person and co-op shooting experience. The series is set in a world on the brink of collapse due to the threat of alien locusts. Disgraced Sergeant Marcus Fenix leads a fireteam called the Delta Squad, humanity’s last stand against the Locusts.
Right now, it’s unknown if Netflix’s Gears of War movie is the same one that’s been in development limbo for 15 years. Dave Bautista is rumored to play Marcus Fenix in the film, which would also be a great choice for a Netflix project. Bautista has previously described Marcus Fenix is his dream role. Casting, story and release date details for the Gears of War live-action movie and animated series will be revealed in the coming months.
