CD Projekt Red announces upcoming Witcher games, Cyberpunk 2077 sequel


Upcoming games from CD Projekt Red

CDPR is currently working on three Witcher games, a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, and a new IP, each in various stages of production.

Project Polaris

Project Polaris is expected to be the next game in the Witcher series, a story-driven open-world RPG. More than 150 people at CDPR are working on the project. Project Polaris will begin the new Witcher trilogy, which is expected to be released within 6 months of Polaris’ launch. CDPR President and Joint CEO Adam Kisinski shared some details about the Polaris release window. in a Investor Call (via IGN), Kiciński said, “We are preparing the technology for Polaris. This is the first project released on a new engine called Unreal Engine 5. [so] Making this technique requires some extra work. For this project, we need some extra effort to deliver accurately. Kisinski confirmed that the next Witcher game could be more than three years away.

Senior Vice President of Business Development, Michał Nowakowski, said it usually takes four to five years to develop a new game with new technology. However, this may not be the case with Witcher 4. That being said, it’s safe to assume that the Witcher 4 launch is at least three years away.

Project Sirius

Project Sirius aims to offer an innovative take on the franchise and will be geared towards veteran players and new players alike. The game is currently in pre-production, with over 60 people working on development at The Molasses Flood Studio.

Major Dog Project

Project Canis Majoris will be a single-player open-world RPG title set in the Witcher universe. A third-party studio led by former Witcher developers will work on the game.

Project Orion

Project Orion is a cyberpunk 2077 sequel that will be set in a world created by Mike Pondsmith. Developed by CDPR, the game is expected to launch after the Phantom Liberty expansion, which is slated for release in 2023.

Project Hadar

Project Hadar will be the newest IP from CDPR, which has been in “incubation” since 2021. The IP is currently in the conceptual stage and is completely different from Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077.
