Blaupunkt 55-inch QLED 4K Google TV review: competent viewing

[ad_1]

The way we consume content on our TVs has changed significantly. Cable and DTH offer less in the way of choice. Thanks to OTT services, people are demanding a lot more from TV manufacturers as well. Great audio and video capabilities are a must and people are becoming aware of the role the operating system plays in the offering. Blaupunkt entered India’s burgeoning smart TV market a while back and its latest arrival caught my attention. Blaupunkt 55-inch QLED 4K Google TV is currently priced on Flipkart at Rs. 41,999, which I think is very competitive with the current offerings in the market. Let’s take a look at the features and specifications of the smart TV to see if it is really worth your consideration.

Blaupunkt’s build quality is quite satisfactory when it comes to smart TVs. Like the CyberSound 43-inch (Review) from last year, the 55-inch QLED version runs razor-thin bezels on three sides of the TV. While the overall construction is plastic, the bottom of the TV has a trademark polished silver finish where Blaupunkt’s branding is visible. With its 55-inch profile, the Smart TV takes up considerable space wherever you place it. The legs provided inside the box screw easily and keep the device stable enough on a flat surface. Of course, you also have the option of mounting the TV on the wall.

In terms of ports, the device has three HDMI ports, two USB Type-A slots, a LAN port and an antenna port. They are all on the same side at the back for ease of use and proper cable management. For wireless connectivity, the smart TV offers support for Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi.

Also, in line with previous Blaupunkt TVs, the 55-inch QLED has a large remote with a variety of functions you don’t need. I like the dedicated keys for opening Netflix, Prime Video and YouTube. For Indian audience, having Hotstar key is even better. In either case, you have buttons for menu navigation, Google Assistant, Settings, Back, Home and volume controls. Below are several keys that may come in handy if you are watching cable television. The voice assistant works well and generally has good recognition capabilities.

The performance of the Blaupunkt 55-inch QLED is handled by a quad-core MediaTek processor, which is paired with 16GB of internal storage. My experience with the UI is average. Quite a few times I noticed the interface freezing while switching between OTT services. The Google TV interface is intuitive enough but navigating through it showed some lag. However, once inside the app, performance is good. Videos streamed without buffering and I could move around the app to change settings with no problem. The TV runs on Google TV Android 11 and has built-in Chromecast for streaming.

As for the TV’s core aspects of audio and video quality, there’s little to complain about. The QLED 55-inch screen has a 4K resolution and displays 1.1 billion colors. Brightness levels are excellent, as are viewing angles, and colors really punch well above the TV’s weight class. I ran a standard Costa Rica HDR 4K video on YouTube to test the quality and was mesmerized by the dynamic range as well as the detail seen in each shot.

Both Dolby Vision and HDR 10+ content are supported and I must say the latest episodes. House of the Dragon It’s a pleasure to watch on screen. There is MEMC smoothing and the TV automatically scales any content up to 60fps. For audio, you get a stereo speaker setup that has a maximum output of 60W and is Dolby Atmos tuned. I turned the volume up to max and still, the sound had plenty of depth without cracking. A TV audio setup is perfect for your living room without spending a lot of money on a separate speaker setup.

judgment

Blaupunkt 55-inch 4K QLED Smart TV Rs. An effective option in the sub 50,000 market. It has audio and visual features that set it up to compete with other products. I was impressed with how good the picture quality of the TV was compared to its price tag. Apart from that, the setup process and build quality of the device is very good. A few areas of improvement revolve around the interface, which lags a bit at times, but other than that, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better alternative than Blaupunkt’s 55-inch offering.

Editor’s Rating: 3.5 / 5

Pros:

  • Good picture quality
  • Good audio
  • Solid design

Disadvantages:

  • Performance can be improved
