Airtel has announced that it is offering its low-cost Rs 49 plan for free to younger subscribers. The Rs 49 recharge plan may not be paid in terms of benefits (Talktime Rs 38 and 100 MB mobile data for 28 days), which should come as a lifesaver for most people as it gives them the opportunity to fight to book a slot for the vaccine. Talktime is also useful. Airtel plans to help 55 million people by spending Rs 270 crore on the process. Needless to say, these benefits are only for existing Airtel subscribers. Airtel did not say when the plans will come into effect, or how it will help the 55 million customers mentioned above gain access to the Rs 49 plan. Although the Rs 79 plan can be accessed through the website/app, things are much more complicated for the Rs 49 plan. Ideally, Airtel should let us know more about it in the coming days.
