SAE International divides the driving automation levels of automobiles from level 0 to level 5 to six levels. Among them, level 2 refers to a state in which the driver can always interfere with driving while looking ahead. In other words, on a road with clear and complex lane sections such as a highway, Level 2 is a condition in which automatic or autonomous driving is only possible as an auxiliary route for limited conditions and times.

A common level 2 driving function is to assist a driver such as HDA (Highway Driving Assist) to improve driving comfort and safety. Although the functions and names supported by vehicle manufacturers vary, the Level 2 provides an autonomous driving level that assists the driver, and requires a Level 3 or higher to drive the driver with the steering wheel and removable pedals.

According to Canalys, most premium car brands sell cars with Level 2 driving capability, with Level 2 Driving and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) being the standard on popular models. In the past, these functions isolated factors for new cars, but now they are considered essential functions, the research firm analyzed.
